New Year’s Week Dec.-Jan. 2007-2008

On Wednesday, keep people who like to argue from being in the same room with each other; they are likely to carry things much too far. You’re sorely tempted to get the last word in. In fact, one side may completely demolish the other’s arguments, but that doesn’t leave much room for reconciliation, does it? If you make just one resolution this year, make it “Think for ten seconds before saying anything.”
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop

Aries – March 20-April 19 – Buddy Ebsen – You accomplish a lot this week in spite of the holiday break. Taking a systematic approach pays off dividends at work and also in taking care of your health. The New Year brings a bountiful year in your working life if you continue that disciplined approach. Home renovations could be on your agenda the first quarter of the year.

Taurus – April 20-May 20 – Margot Fonteyn – The New Year may be discouraging at times with regard to your creative goals. But the emphasis now is on applying yourself in a consistent way — do something related to your craft every day, whether it is lessons or writing or sketches. Search online for helpful websites and sign up for free e-newsletters. Your quest for mastery will lead you to create works of lasting interest and beauty.

Gemini – May 21-June 20 – Henry LeTang – It seems to me that a house is a burden to you. You think more about the endless chores and expenses, am I right? For the New Year, please resolve to be thankful for a roof over your head. If you really need a smaller space, then by all means take advantage of discount real estate. By allowing your resentments to build up, you’re asking the Universe to get rid of the house, and it will do so — suddenly and none too gently.

Cancer – June 21-July 22 – Gower Champion – The first month or two of the New Year, you will feel like a weight slid off your shoulders. Take advantage of this time to organize and cull. Purge the closets and storage bins, even business files. Give some things to charity and offer like-new items thru your local freecycle. Think about “storing” family history (and recipes) on a website. There’s lots of free info about how to do it, and you can even upload pictures.

Leo – July 23-Aug. 22 – Leonide Massine – Your artist’s palette suddenly brightens up. The first month of the New Year has you coming up with the most beautiful tints — or phrases if you are a writer or composer. Keep a good notebook for all these incoming inspirations. You’ll work hard for your money this year, but will be well-rewarded for your efforts.

Virgo – Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – Thierry Sirou – A New Year of artistic opportunities and growth is slated for you. Your life continues to be grueling, requiring that you get ever more organized to meet all the demands on your time. The challenge for the year is to balance discipline and spontaneity. You need to avoid getting into ruts; schedule a goof-off day after an especially long, hard day.

Libra – Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Arthur Duncan – Your messages may get crossed if you plan to meet up with others on New Year’s Eve. You’d probably prefer watching movies or concerts, or dancing the night away at a local club. Your home is a major focus this year; maybe you have a guest or foreign exchange student.

Scorpio – Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – Eleanor Powell – The New Year doesn’t really feel right until Tuesday evening — it’s all right to give it a late welcoming party. Wednesday evening is lovely for a quiet dinner with your significant other; you might even fall in love all over again. Get your grant proposals in the pipeline; seek advice from experts in the grant writing field.

Sagittarius – Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – Hermes Pan  – The new year doesn’t start for you until Friday. Use one of your gift certificates for a beauty makeover for your date Friday night. Saturday could blow your weekend plans. You’re kept awake till the wee hours, and later it’s some home repair emergency. Don’t blow your stack — you decide you may as well renovate.

Capricorn – Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – Alvin Ailey – A flurry of communications issues forth from you. All those articles you’ve been meaning to write, or contributions for the club newsletter? You finally get a good chunk of them down on paper (or into cyberspace). Your New Year’s resolution is to be more disciplined, and stick to a program for the long term. You are very tempted to overdo everything over the holidays and all year, so please guard your health.

Aquarius – Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – Gregory Hines – Aquarians start to get a pat on the back this year from the Universe. The dreamers, the artists and dancers among you will gain recognition and find new avenues of personal and professional growth. It’s a mini “Age of Aquarius” so get your team management skills polished and ready to go to work.

Pisces – Feb. 18-March 19 – Tommy Tune – Your grant may run out in this time frame. Take advantage of the freedom of no parameters. Your task now is to work on a new style or technique — I suspect it may have something to do with deconstructing and re-assembling objects or perspectives. Kind of like smashing your magnificent Tinker Toy object (way back when) and starting all over again, isn’t it?

Christmas Week, December 2007

Merry Christmas, everybody! Christmas morning this year is an at-home, private event. Forego the rushing from house to house; just let the kids stay in their jammies, put out a cold buffet of cheese, crackers and finger foods, and let everyone relax. Feel the love for a minute. Evening is right for visiting the grandparents, tho. — Many of you received a lovely fashionable scarf for Christmas. Do you know what to do with it? Go to Missus Smarty Pants at http://missussmartypantsmall.com/CDA5240F87574D8387EBDE8FEC733210/page/page.asp?id=15830 for free directions on how to use your oblong scarf to great effect! (Free webpage.)
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop

Aries – March 20-April 19 – Ann Miller – Your career really gets a boost this week and all through the coming new year, woo-hoo! Discipline in your health routine will keep your batteries charged for what is sure to be a busy, demanding year. The home front on Christmas eve will probably be a snarl of short tempers and frustrations. Just pitch in with last minute tasks, and tell the spouse to let go of the rest — it’s not worth the aggravation she gives herself.

Taurus – April 20-May 20 – Fred Astaire – Artistic discipline is the keyword for the week (and for almost two years, really). If you write, get in the habit of writing something every day. If you paint, sing, play, whatever, find a good teacher or educational program and apply yourself every day. For Christmas, just having the loving mate you lucked onto is enough. Show you appreciate every minute.

Gemini – May 21-June 20 – Bill “Bojangles” Robinson – You will be so tempted to blow your gift budget and pull out credit cards in last minute shopping. Stop! Stop! You’ve spent enough, done enough, and all they want from you is your presence (not your presents). And the latest gossip, of course, which you are all too glad to dish out.

Cancer – June 21-July 22 – Rasta Thomas – Aim to get done with preparations by Christmas eve, because by that time, you will be as tired and cranky as a toddler who’s missed his nap. Spend Christmas eve counting blessings. Plan a simpler Christmas Day, let the kids help with tasks, push some family get-togethers back to the weekend when everyone has had a chance to catch their breaths.

Leo – July 23-Aug. 22 – Mata Hari – If you didn’t get what you hoped for Christmas, or if you got gift cards, you will eagerly scoop up discounted fashions on Wednesday. Only don’t run up some more credit card debt, for pete’s sake. Your health takes a turn for the better. Ailments or injuries of long standing may finally heal properly.

Virgo – Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – Marge Champion – Your creative urges are revived and demand expression. Try shopping for art supplies or a class this week, especially Friday. You will enjoy a year-long boom in any creative endeavor — now, this may mean having a baby, but usually it means writing a book, or getting a play produced, or painting a picture, etc. Fri. & Sat. are best days.

Libra – Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Fayard Nicholas – Christmas eve day at work has folks blurting out their frustrations. Just do your part to get deadlines met before the office closes for the holiday. Seek out after Christmas bargains in art supplies for painting, photography, or music. Invest in You. Your muse settles in for a spell, so she needs to feel welcome and honored. It feels like your connection to the sacred is worked out in your medium.

Scorpio – Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – Savion Glover – The volume of messages picks up considerably this week. People you re-connect with, and new contacts, too, remain in touch for at least the coming year. Writing projects also start to bear fruit, with you finding a publisher and an audience. In the artistic arena, start seeking a strong teacher if are serious about learning more about your craft.

Sagittarius – Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – Merrill Ashley – The big hot-air balloon that carried you through 2007 is continuing on its merry way without you. So sorry, but it is back to normal for you… You’ll survive being just folks, honest. You’ll have time for renovating the home electrical system, and a new phone or computer hardware or software. A disciplined approach to work pays off.

Capricorn – Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – George Balanchine – You get a real boost of expansive good cheer this Christmas. Just about everyone sends you sincere best wishes. Even if 2009 brings challenges, a guardian angel spreads protective wings around you. On the creative front, formal classes in something like painting or even landscaping can light a fuse. Painting or photographing still lifes provides endless material for experimentation.

Aquarius – Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – Mikhail Baryshnikov – You are often generous to a fault, and this year is no exception. Rest assured, you are appreciated and darn near irreplaceable. The week may start off with an upset stomach, so take special care not to overdo on spicy or unfamiliar foods. Don’t plan anything for Thursday morning, you may be on a sugar high from holiday sweets or drinks.

Pisces – Feb. 18-March 19 – Marius Petipa – You probably gave yourself way too much to do this week, right? Now you’re tearing your hair out as usual trying to keep up. Hold on now, just take 15 minutes per task or per room. If you don’t have 15 minutes, take 10 minutes. Or even just TWO. It will get done, just jump in where you are, and set some small chores for the kids so they feel like they are a real part of the family, too.

Third Week December 2007

Stores are full Monday morning and again on Thursday as Christmas shoppers decide the price is right on the bigger-ticket items. On Tuesday, electronic items look good if they offer value. Sellers breathe a sigh of relief. Everybody’s happy.
Introduce the kids and grandkids to HouseFairy.org — let her coax them into helping get the house ready for guests, and learn to create order in their lives. This is a free site.
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

Aries – March 20-April 19 – Serge Lifar – Tues-Wed are your best days this month, although late Tues may be a little fuzzyheaded — maybe a movie will suit you there, one that takes you to a marvelous fantasyland. The month, and the winter for that matter, will see you dealing with house issues — this could mean repairs or renovations, or it could mean sifting through financing options.

Taurus – April 20-May 20 – Martha Graham – Your best days this month are late Wed. thru mid Friday. If you get an early start on chores and errands Thursday, you can open up a lot of time slots during the holiday week. Hide those credit cards from yourself — you’re so tempted to max them out and then where will you be? Keep to your list, and promise the grandkids some time together making cookies.

Gemini – May 21-June 20 – Isadora Duncan – A gift exchange at work Tuesday brings you a pleasant surprise. Take care not to overdo with the sweets, especially late Friday; your system isn’t used to such heavy fare and you’ve forgotten how rotten you felt afterwards. Your own home feels too cramped for you to play host or hostess. But you’re always glad to bring a dish, a game, and a camera to capture the moment.

Cancer – June 21-July 22 – Twyla Tharp – You receive a very pleasant surprise of loving appreciation. Maybe a gift box arrives from well-wishers on the other side of the country, or of the world. Also you enjoy holiday school programs, especially if your dear grandchildren are in the cast. Work or health news m

Leo – July 23-Aug. 22 – Leonide Massine – You always like making a bit of a splash with parties, whether you are hosting or not. But really, talk over your plans with your spouse and settle on a dollar amount for wines or other supplies, because you are tempted to buy out the reserves of your favorite brands. Let each guest bring a bottle, for example, to share and taste. Or play charades and other classic games.

Virgo – Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – Agnes deMille – I hope you like babysitting for the kids or grandkids. Your home is their playground this month, but you really don’t mind. You like exposing them to wholesome options in everything from food to games. Sending free e-cards appeals to both your frugality and your desire to save some trees.

Libra – Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Ben Vereen – You’ll love beating everyone to the holiday movies and dishing out your reviews at the Christmas gatherings. I don’t think you’ll care for the love stories this year, which is a pity because those are usually your faves. Beware of the shopping game this week. You could do your bank account some real damage and be unhappy with the items you bought. Cuddle with your significant other instead at local tree-lightings and concerts.

Scorpio – Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – Eleanor Powell – Comedies hit the bull’s eye on your funny bone this week. Whether you actually go out to the movies this week or just laugh it up at parties, you will find things strike you just as funny as can be. Have you ever taken the stage on open mike night? This may be the perfect time, so practice your impressions.

Sagittarius – Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – June Taylor – Some years you feel like you’ve been torn apart like a jigsaw puzzle and then the pieces don’t fit back together. This may be one of those years. But take the Winter Solstice this weekend — the Sun eventually reaches the limit of the celestial rubber band and starts bouncing back. You, too, always bounce back. Light your Yule log for a bigger, brighter 2008. Financially, you have all you really need.

Capricorn – Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – Debbie Allen – Capricorns get a celestial transfusion this week with new planetary energies entering your sign. Those in the retail field, especially in durable type goods, will find shoppers ready to open their pocketbooks wide. Legal matters may literally come to a standstill Wed — maybe your attorney gets an injunction. You get your artistic juices flowing making still-lifes of the holiday table, with the grapes, cheese and wine bottle.

Aquarius – Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – Ruth St. Denis – Your co-workers share tokens of mutual esteem with you this week. It may be a cookie exchange, or small gifts. Someone may actually give you something you appreciate very much, and you will be surprised that he or she knew you needed it. You’re not quite in a partying mood, but you do enjoy having people over for dinner. You like putting out a ‘good spread’ with the fancy dishes and lace napkins.

Pisces – Feb. 18-March 19 – Rudolf Nureyev – Your hubby is holding the budgetary purse strings tight, forcing you to be creative rather than lavish. Refurbishing some older decorations, repainting or taking them apart  — this is the kind of thing you enjoy this year. Hope you saved up enough pie tins to make the outdoor tree, with a green light in each center and nailed to a triangular frame. (I actually saw one of these, and at night it makes an impact.)

Second Week December 2007

Tuesday is a power day — those who are on the right track receive a special validation of their efforts. And then again, those who are just skimming the surface, making the smart deals regardless of whether everyone benefits, could face a comeuppance. The issue is the right use of power – will you use it for the Greater Good or just your own? The day has a warm and sexy glow, too, with some of us meeting our other halves or just kindred spirits.
Readers can follow not only their Sun or Moon sign, but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

Aries – March 20-April 19 – Sergei Diaghilev – Monday could bring discouraging news about a relative winding up in the hospital, but this is probably a temporary setback. A lawyer or other ombudsman type whispers good advice to you behind the scenes. That advice may be related to home, mortgage or estate issues — so hang in there. Those in religious or values-education find the right words to reach the masses; finally they are ready to think about these issues.

Taurus – April 20-May 20 – Audrey Hepburn – You are hard at work, Tuesday especially, writing an intricate duet (music or dance). Think Fred and Ginger. Or Fred and anybody. Accompanying a spouse to a lecture or class proves surprisingly rewarding; you meet lots of interesting people and find a wonderful organization. But be sure to attend in order to fend off that one unwanted admirer of your partner.

Gemini – May 21-June 20 – Henry LeTang – Career matters may have you upset by bad news late Monday, but this is only a temporary situation. Other work issues, like money or a company gift exchange, go quite well and you feel like you won bingo. A public speaker or performer mesmerizes you and gives you conversational material for weeks. Maybe you even write a review or personal blog about it.

Cancer – June 21-July 22 – Bob Fosse – You connect to the principle and ideal of beauty in your creative pursuits this week. Sign up for that workshop — an influential teacher/mentor passes along some techniques or insights that prove invaluable. This will probably involve some very exacting, demanding technical expertise. It will be difficult, but will add a whole new dimension to your craft.

Leo – July 23-Aug. 22 – Mata Hari – You bring a creative project to completion this week. Whether it receives immediate applause is unimportant. If you believe in it, then the right audience will find it eventually. Actors and athletes overcome great odds to win a place in the sun. Even lucky gamblers have a moment in the spotlight this week. You are one who believes even bad press is good for getting ahead – but you’re just as capable of getting good notices.

Virgo – Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – Gene Kelly – You pick up a nice gift in the form of referrals or public mention. Are you getting in the holiday party spirit this year? You’re not digging in to the buffet, having a bit of harder time making chit-chat? Maybe you’re volunteering at church events this year and finding that’s more meaningful to you. Volunteering in general, or at charity balls and concerts also has more appeal, and gives a deeper satisfaction than anything store-bought.

Libra – Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Michael Smuin – Thursday evening and Friday are great for creative work. Draw on personal inspiration for dance or music projects. You may have to walk thru the steps in order to figure out the flow of movement for the dancers, for example, so you can put it on paper. Friday is also best party night, and you always throw the best, most elegant parties.

Scorpio – Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – Savion Glover – Hang out with kindred spirits on Tuesday after work. This may be joining up with a political campaign or a group working on social issues. You are likely to meet a future boon companion there. You give an open-house buffet or dinner at home this month that brings together people from different specialties. Very interesting conversations result.

Sagittarius – Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – Alexander Godunov – You’ll be in the thick of it this week, and probably all month. Whatever people say about you doesn’t bother you in the least, at long as they talk about you. Hosting a luncheon at work for your loyal workers pays off in spades down the road when you need to call upon them for extra effort.

Capricorn – Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – Moira Shearer – The 11th is your best day of the month. You get lots done, and the buoyant tone of the day lifts everyone up. Hedge your bets on the stock market tho, and stick to the fundamentals. A good advisor or broker steers you profitably regarding finances. Would you finally hand over the ancestral china to one of the kids? She’ll host an elegant holiday dinner with it.

Aquarius – Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – Gregory Hines – You’ve been feeling a bit lost in the real world. Tues. night you could get lost for real when driving around town (check the MapQuest first) or lost as in can’t-find-keys-lost. Check free website HouseFairy.org, and introduce her to the kids. Try incubating a dream Thursday night. (Go to dreams.ca for instructions.) Friday is your best day of the month. Work in music or art should also be favored and emotionally involving.

Pisces – Feb. 18-March 19 – Cyd Charisse – The weekend is all yours, although late Saturday could be frustrating. (Skip the extended hours shopping or the movie.) Instead, get an early start Sat. at clearing out space for the tree. Avoid getting sidetracked but do throw out whatever you obviously no longer need. There may be minor mishaps at midday Sunday – if it breaks just get another one, for pete’s sake.

December 14, 2007 at 12:43 pm

First Week December 2007

A New Moon this coming Sunday, the 10th, is auspicious for all kinds of creative endeavors. Actors lose themselves in their roles. Crafts-persons toil away on detailed projects, especially those that involve metal or stonework. Also women who are involved in law, social work, or political change move forward this month. This is true particularly if they have to prepare detailed arguments for court appearances.
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

Aries – March 20-April 19 – It’s one of those learning experiences, Aries. Sometimes the lesson is having to slow down and pay attention to the picky details. On the plus side, it’s good for painstaking work like sculpting or anything with metal or stone. Maybe your energy is not 100%, but it works to your advantage as you slow down enough to notice details and polish the piece.

Taurus – April 20-May 20 – You make real progress this week with projects that require attention to detail and craftsmanship. This is especially true on Saturday, when you can get into such a groove that you work long into the night. Are you making gifts of the earth as Christmas presents this year? Many of us intend to, but leave too much to do in these short weeks — but you figure out how to pace yourself.

Gemini – May 21-June 20 – The 3rd and 4th are very productive as you draw on emotional memories. Try to avoid adding to current debt with new holiday shopping; you have an opportunity to chip away at debt now thru the end of January at least. You probably have all you really need in storage from last year (the cards, lights, ornaments, even some gifts – all of which you never used yet).

Cancer – June 21-July 22 – I hope you handed over the reins to daughters or daughters in law when it came to hosting the Thanksgiving feast. So what if it wasn’t YOUR way? Pass along copies of recipes, or bring your fave dish to the next family get-together. Offer to babysit grandkids while the adults go to grownup holiday events. You get to teach the kids how to make cookies, and make special memories. At work, you benefit from a surprise victory.

Leo – July 23-Aug. 22 – Finances have endured a slow drain for months. Yet you have a knack for making a big splash with little materials. Use a few tricks of lighting and stagecraft with ingenuity for decorating the house. Round up the kids for cookie making, games and putting on a show for the adults. You’re the biggest kid in the bunch, you know.

Virgo – Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – You’re going to get a slowdown about the middle of this month so try to get as much wrapped up by then as you can. Otherwise, some projects may need editing or you may have to work longer hours for the same contracted rate. So winter will be a good time for going back to the proverbial drawing board — sign up for refresher classes, reinstall software, take care of personal health matters.

Libra – Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Love matters that seem so deep and committed on Monday will look so different on Wednesday; get promises in writing and don’t move in with anyone under the glow of moonlight and champagne. Focus creative energies all weekend on your own muse, whether it is painting, photography or dance – because by the night of the 11th you will have found a way to express your own voice in whatever medium.

Scorpio – Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – Wednesday is a fabulous day for you. You find that perfect holiday dress or accessory, and a new hairdo will possibly be the best yet. St. Nick brings early tokens of appreciation, and you feel like the holiday is all yours this year. Thursday your energy is zooming tho messages find their recipients out of the office. Friday is a bit aggravating – possibly the computer crashes or the fax won’t go thru, but try again after noon.

Sagittarius – Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – You’ll wish you scheduled a vacation week now. You feel like breaking out of routines — take a different route, have lunch for supper, etc. Suppressing the urge only causes accidents. Expect the unexpected. Get away for an early weekend at the lake. You come back so refreshed that you zoom thru everything on Sunday anyway.

Capricorn – Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – Dealings with a spouse or partner can be tricky Mon. eve but go more amicably on Thur. morn. You explain the situation to unsympathetic ears Monday, but give them a few days to think about it. Those close to you could be having a trying time this month, and are depending on you to be their anchor. They need to learn moderation and Capricorns – who are generally masters at that lesson – could be cast in the role of teachers.

Aquarius – Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – You remember to visit shut-ins or those in the hospital during the holidays. Take a fruit basket rather than sweets, and ask if you can fix anything or run an errand for him or her. Your home is always open anyway, but this year you host an open-house or two for anyone who wants to stop in for your buffet and fellowship. You take care not to overdo, yourself.

Pisces – Feb. 18-March 19 – The 3rd can be very demanding and even upsetting. Some legal news may come as a big surprise to you. Are you finally motivated to make some changes so this never happens again? A lawyer or ombudsman type will issue statements in your behalf.

A gift to my lovely readers —

As a special gift to my readers I thought you might enjoy some background music. A terrific writer and geek found these archived radio recordings of the Beatles for a Swedish radio show way back when. He cleaned them up a bit and edited them, and here they are. Five songs in cool condition. So turn up the volume alright already.
