Your Milky Way Horoscope Dec. 14-20, 2008

By Milky Way Maid

Mars in Sagittarius squares Saturn in Virgo on Monday. We’re supposed to put a positive spin on everything nowadays, but this is a classic transit for a bone fracture. Can you skip the ski day and just take pictures or something? And salt that ice by the side door, would you?

The Sun is inconjunct the Moon on Sunday. On the one hand, it is a very creative aspect for couples to get together and do their holiday decorating. On the other hand, prepare for having to negotiate differences in taste. Maybe the gold trimmings can go on the tree in the front room, and the blue trimmings on the rec room tree??

BTW I want to give a mention to the Holiday Control Journal available from the FlyLady people at FlyLady.com. If you always feel overwhelmed by the Thanksgiving-to-New-Year’s ordeal, give the Control Journal a shot. It’s free, just go to the site and print it out. It breaks down all the tasks that have to be done to make your holidays run smooth. If you make this part of your annual routine, you will never again have to run out at the last minute to find a gift for Aunt Mable because you forgot.

Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

ARIES

March 20-April 19 – The asteroid Vesta backs into your sign this month (ingress Dec. 6). Do you feel a greater concern about issues related to service and community? Vesta’s association with fire seems like a natural linkup to you as a fire sign, Aries. It was traditional for the Greeks to make an offering to Vesta at the beginning and end of each meal, thanking her for their sustenance. You might suddenly feel the urge to say grace before meals, or to help with a local food bank. You might feel called to sacrifice, purify, or dedicate part of your life to a common cause. Vesta’s animals are the deer and donkey, her birds are ibis and nightingale, her trees are oak and laurel, and her emblem is the tripod, representing the altar.

TAURUS

April 20-May 20 – This year you want a very traditional Christmas. Saturn in your sign reinforces your preference for the tried and true. You want your cookies made with grandma’s recipe, not something off the box of raisins. You urge your siblings (and their kids) to get together for a night of caroling or ice skating or whatever activity you used to do as children. Maybe you want to go even further back, to a jolly old English Christmas supper with plum pudding for dessert! Maybe you can still get tickets for a Madrigal Dinner at your local college.

GEMINI

May 21-June 20 – Gemini generally loves the new and novel, but I am betting that you decorate your tree with old-fashioned ornaments this year, maybe even with a traditional glass pickle. (Gemini loves small items and miniatures, so I bet your tree has tons of tiny ornaments.) Your Libra solar fifth house of parties makes you quite the social butterfly, dashing to as many parties as you can. The only Grinch might be your spouse, tho. Mars conjuncting the Sun in your solar seventh house might make him so high-energy that his impatience spoils the fun of many outings. Can you get him to work off some energy with a run or swim before supper?

CANCER

June 21-July 22 – The week opens with the Moon in Cancer till Sunday evening. The Moon trines Uranus in the morning — perhaps you shop online, or maybe the Sunday comics really hit your funny bone. An inconjunct to Mars the same morning can bring a real upset, but disciplining your own emotions gets you back on an even keel. Mere humans never made anything perfect, so just try to get closer to the mark than last year. Make notes in your recipe book and holiday journal for future reference.

LEO

July 23-Aug. 22 – The Moon is in Leo from Sunday evening till the wee hours Wednesday. Refrain from sharing stories you would not want repeated Sunday night — or they might pop out during some holiday party. I also see an opportunity Monday to resolve some deep hurts over Christmases Past. Try to see the event from the other’s view; they probably did the best they could at the time, so muster some forgiveness. Tuesday threatens accidents arising from haste so resist over-scheduling yourself. This Uranus aspect can also be great for creative expression in music or invention. That evening favors a romantic dinner or just stealing a smooch while wrapping gifts.

VIRGO

Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – The Moon is in Virgo from the wee hours Wednesday till Friday morning. Consider writing down a story for your children or grandchildren from your own youth. I am sure that you can capture the meaning of the season for your clan. Wednesday can bring an early gift, or perhaps you spend the evening making cookies (Moon trine Venus). Plan to be busy Thurs. all day; don’t be surprised if a mountain of work gets dumped on your lap. Don’t despair, don’t be hasty in plowing thru it because you sure as heck don’t want to do it all over. Appeal to the boss for some help, and I think he will assign someone.

LIBRA

Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – The Moon is in Libra from Friday morn till Sunday afternoon. Friday favors research or just relaxing with a nice detective story. Saturday’s Moon trine Venus brings tips and gifts around midday. That evening has a Moon inconjunct Uranus, favoring relaxing with a comedy, writing your own music or poetry, or doing arts & crafts. You might stay up till the wee hours watching movies (Moon trine Neptune).

SCORPIO

Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – Your holiday decorating might consist of hanging a beautiful wreath and squinting till your house kind of resembles the ideal in your mind’s eye. It is not that you’re cheap, because you’re just frugal — it’s that you are able to see the beauty in small things like the sight of snow on the trees. And also you have a real weakness for the sweet treats that come with the holidays, so watch your waistline and limit the snacks. Uranus in your solar fifth house of parties puts the accent on music and laughs. Bet you are hiring a band or programming a playlist of your fave holiday music. Saturn in your solar eleventh house could bring recognition for your contributions.

SAGITTARIUS

Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – You could be headed for a blowup if you do not have your head on straight. Mars conjunct the Sun (for later Sag’s) could make you so impatient that you forget the reason for the season. Try to work off some physical energy with exercise, which will also help keep your waistline trim. A lovely neighbor or relative may point the way to further personal growth, so take time to really talk with those you meet at local events. Uranus in your solar fourth house can be frustrating; you might overload circuits with lighted decorations or cause other electrical problems. Be safe! Meanwhile, work is demanding with long hours or a night shift.

CAPRICORN

Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – Happy Birthday, Capricorn! (on Sunday) — Your members include George Balanchine, Moira Shearer, Debbie Allen, Gwen Verdon. Could it be that dour old Cappy is a real Santa? Looks like it this year, with Mercury and Jupiter in your sign. Maybe you can dress up like Saint Nicholas, the thin bishop who handed out dowrys and other gifts. You were never one to hand out stuff to strangers, tho; your largesse is confined to family. But you can be quite generous with your own, that’s for sure.

AQUARIUS

Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – While you are often quite generous and sentimental, your gifts tend to foster development of your children’s talents and intellect. Educational toys, crafts, music lessons, etc. all fit your ideas of what a gift should do. Electronic gadgets or software could get the nod from you, too, as you fill your gift bags. You could also take charge of holiday parties (Pallas in your solar fifth house), as you welcome the chance to host children’s games and activities at your home. You maintain fair play and equal treatment.

PISCES

Feb. 18-March 19 – You offer to host a holiday get-together mainly so you can keep a measure of control over the proceedings. I suspect it may be beyond your comfort level financially, so have guests bring whatever fave dishes or treats they’d like. You want to play the grand host, but try not to get upset if every little thing does not go according to your “script”. This is supposed to be fun, after all, not like a championship game where everyone has to play world-class ball. Offer to play guests’ music CDs so everyone gets to hear a sample of a wider variety of music; remind guests to put their name sticker on the jewel case. Music gets you back in the spirit of things.

A gift to my lovely readers —

As a special gift to my readers I thought you might enjoy some background music. A terrific writer and geek found these archived radio recordings of the Beatles for a Swedish radio show way back when. He cleaned them up a bit and edited them, and here they are. Five songs in cool condition. So turn up the volume alright already.
