The Sun enters the sign Cancer on Sunday at 1:46 am Eastern Time, marking when day and night are of equal lengths. We call this the Summer Solstice, when Sol (the Sun) stands still in the sky. This year it is marked by a Venus-Mars conjunction in equally fertile Taurus at 9:09 am Eastern, which in turn trines Saturn early Monday . It is possible that this solstice will inspire people to contract a marriage with their significant other. Saturn is good for marriage; it sets a boundary around the loving couple, Venus and Mars, and warns others to respect the boundary. Politically, it will be discouraging for advocates for same-sex marriage as those who define (Saturn) marriage as between a man and woman (Venus and Mars) will force their definition on others.

The Solstice on Sunday is followed in short order by a New Moon at 1 degree 30 minutes Cancer, at 3:35 pm Eastern. The Sun and Moon oppose Pluto, but this is eased a bit by all the sextiles from Moon to Saturn, Venus, and Mars. Pluto is evolution among other things; evolution as an individual, as a species, as a family, and on physical, emotional and spiritual levels. Pluto in Capricorn is Big Business; the Moon (public) opposing it will mean greater public demands for restriction or even dismantling of Big Businesses. This will likely relate to the restrictions being placed on executive pay for companies that accept government bailout funds, but I think public sentiment could spread to larger issues of why are we accepting such a concentration of wealth and power among such a small fraction of Americans?

Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop. Also note: some aspects are exact on a weekend but may find opportunity for expression on the Friday or Monday nearest the exact aspect.

ARIESMarch 20-April 19 – The lights enter Cancer this week, activating the next cardinal point on the zodiac. Cancer is your solar fourth house of home and family, so your home becomes the focus for the season, and you love inviting people for cookouts or even holding tag sales. Tuesday may be your best day of the week, as sextiles to the Cancer Moon are nurturing and welcoming. You may experience an addition to the family in some way, though not necessarily a baby. You might host a visitor, or a attend a relative’s wedding.

TAURUSApril 20-May 20 – Mars and Venus are conjunct in Taurus this Sunday; see notes above. Your energies will be high, and you will be in love with life. The activation of Cancer, your solar third house, can have you buzzing around your neighborhood, increase the volume or importance of communications, bring relatives back into contact, and open doors with neighbors. Put a priority on networking for fun and profit. You may also find yourself gravitating towards bodies of water for restful contemplation or recreation. It may be worth it to you to install a whirlpool tub in your home for some healthful water therapy.

GEMINIMay 21-June 20 – The Moon is in Gemini from the previous Saturday till midday Monday. The Moon is conjunct Mercury, which also squares Saturn, forcing you to slow down and consider your words first before speaking. Monday could be a smashing day for you, will trines all over. Moon trines the huge Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Aquarius in your solar ninth house, so I hope your schedule includes being on campus, or in a courtroom where you see an inspiring victory for human rights and other related legal issues. The Moon square Uranus the same day can bring surprises, even shock, but also a chance for new insights. But take care with electrical power, too.

CANCERJune 21-July 22 – The Moon joins the Sun in Cancer at midday Monday till midday Wednesday. See notes above about the New Moon Monday. Be aware of how you view the world. Do you imagine the world is full of malevolent forces intent on your (or our) destruction? Be careful what you invite into your reality. Own your own power; use prayer or affirmation to birth your vision of a brighter future. The opposition to Pluto is eased a bit by all the sextiles from Moon to Saturn, Venus, and Mars. You draw strength from and celebrate family ties and family history. Friends marry, and you attend the wedding with joy.

LEOJuly 23-Aug. 22 – The Moon is in Leo from midday Wednesday till midday Friday. Wednesday can bring an adjustment to your work schedule or health regimen; it is a chance to make them in closer alignment to your real needs for balance in your life. You get challenged on Thursday as the Moon squares Mars and Venus in stubborn Taurus; this looks like an intractable situation is not going to yield to your enormous charms just now; best not to beat your head against a wall. A spouse’s shopping spree on Friday knocks you loopy; take away his or her plastic ahead of time.

VIRGOAug. 23-Sept. 22 – The Moon is in Virgo from midday Friday till the following Sunday. The first aspect is a trine to Pluto in your solar fifth house. Perhaps you welcome a new addition to your nuclear or extended family. Perhaps you develop an improved technique in your creative expression, or toss out all you’ve done so far. Recall that Michaelangelo scrapped everything and started over again on the Sistine Chapel. Don’t be surprised if you are in a dour mood early Saturday, with the Moon’s conjunction to Saturn; you will read neutral messages and real bad things into them. Fortunately Saturday ends with a trine to Mars in Taurus, when you can perhaps enjoy the earthy delights of the garden, cooking or music.

LIBRASept. 23-Oct. 22 – If the Venus-Mars conjunction in Taurus on Sunday aspects natal planets, this is a great spur to creative expression, too, especially if inspired by a beautiful ‘muse’ that you’re in love with. Monday features a trine from Moon in Gemini to Jupiter-Neptune in Aquarius, making a grand trine to your natal planets. This is so auspicious for communications and creativity; if you write, then buckle down to it. The Venus-Mars conjunction is again contacted on Friday by aspect to Moon in Leo; allow a friend to check what you’ve done or hold an informal reading.

SCORPIOOct. 23-Nov. 21 – Your still waters are stirred by Tuesday’s Moon in Cancer with its sextiles to Saturn and Mars-Venus. Saturn helps you stick to the task, Mars gives you abundant energy, and Venus gives loving inspiration. Working in partnership will be especially productive that day. Wednesday will have you editing or tweaking as needed. It also has a trine to Uranus in your solar fifth house of creativity; work can flow out in a sudden burst or series of bursts, often with touches of humor as Uranus takes his unique perspective on things.

SAGITTARIUSNov. 22-Dec. 21 – Monday you may thrill in the success of your partner. Sunday and early Friday are likely to be the least enjoyable days this week, but you could force yourself to get some things done nonetheless. Make that ‘to do’ list and plow thru it. Thurs.-Fri. could be interesting with Moon in compatible Leo and sextiles to Jupiter-Neptune; if you latch onto the inspirational energies of that aspect, you may make a wonderful showman or emcee.

CAPRICORNDec. 22-Jan. 19 – The most significant aspect of the week for you is Sunday’s Venus-Mars conjunction in Taurus, trining your natal planets from your solar fifth house of creativity. Enjoy your children and sports, or possibly wager a modest amount on an event. Recreation will recharge your batteries and carry you through the week; Taurus rules golfing in particular so dust off those clubs. Your partnership is also symbolically recharged with the Sun and Moon ingress into Cancer, on Sunday and Monday respectively. Tuesday will be especially harmonious so schedule some quality time together.

AQUARIUSJan. 20-Feb. 17 – Children may be vexed on Father’s Day on Sunday, but do not take it personally. Actually Monday is much for favorable for a harmonious gathering, so you might just set your own observance of the holiday for then. Thursday can be trying as everyone is pulling you in different directions, due to the squares of Moon in Leo to Mars-Venus in Taurus. It is however, an opportunity for everyone to express what they really want, so let them vent. On Friday, some compromises may be constructed based on what you have all learned.

PISCESFeb. 18-March 19 – Water signs like you will feel most comfortable with the Sun ingress into Cancer, and the Moon the following day. The planets will energize your solar fifth house of recreation and creativity; enroll in a craft class or water aerobics sessions. It will feel like the whole city is wrapped up in the Venus-Mars conjunction in Taurus (your solar third house); plan on attending at least one relative’s wedding this summer.

A gift to my lovely readers —

As a special gift to my readers I thought you might enjoy some background music. A terrific writer and geek found these archived radio recordings of the Beatles for a Swedish radio show way back when. He cleaned them up a bit and edited them, and here they are. Five songs in cool condition. So turn up the volume alright already.
