Your Milky Way Horoscope July 1-7, 2012

By Milky Way Maid

Mars was in the news last week, it seems that scientists are pretty sure that there is water locked up under the surface. Article appeared in Smithsonian magazine: http://blogs.smithsonianmag.com/science/2012/06/scientists-discover-that-mars-is-full-of-water/ Note that article appeared the week that Mars reached the degree in Virgo when it went retrograde in April.
Mars enters Libra at 8:32 am Tuesday. Hmmm, this kind of gives me pause because of what another astrologer told me years ago: “Libra is the sign of peace but it is also the sign of war.” So every time the planet of war enters the sign of war, I feel I need to take notice. It seems to me that Libra, insistent as she is on equality, will unsheath her sword when she feels she has been stepped on for too long. This Mars transit is too prone to blaming Others for any lack of harmony; however, a healthy expression of the transit is being able to honestly share what it is you want – the key word here is ‘honestly’ – then the other party can counter with a proposed swap of some kind. A Libra Mars’ sense of justice is easily outraged; fairness is extremely important now. The Libra Mars has a balanced sense of justice and finds means that are appropriate to the ends. It is also good for self-expression in the arts or in literary works. Famous people with Mars in Libra include: Abraham Lincoln, John Lennon, John Lindsey, Martin Luther, George Bernard Shaw, and Winston Churchill.
Mercury at 8 degrees Leo sextiles Venus in Gemini at 9:26 am Wednesday. Very nice for holding hands and sweet nothings. Also nice for exchanging recipes for sweet treats. May or may not be creative or artistic – depends on your talents and if it contacts natal planets, but going to a concert sure sounds nice. Don’t they have a free concert program in the parks in your area?? Try it out!
Mercury also trines Uranus in Aries at 1:53 pm Wednesday; possibly this may be a very busy day on the internet with bloggers galore posting their news, and possibly trying to get support for a collective action. Venus follows with the same aspect to Uranus at 10:36 pm, which I would think would produce very beautiful fireworks displays. Venus is also TOTALLY charmed by a stranger, possibly a foreigner; Venus could also find something of value just lying around, or receive a surprise small gift.

Your Milky Way Horoscope June 24-30, 2012

By Milky Way Maid

Vesta in Taurus opposes Juno in Scorpio at the beginning of the week. This is a new one me, folks, so we will all just have to take notes on this one. Aspect is at 22 degrees of the fixed signs, so if you have natal planets there, they will probably be affected by this. This is close to my nodal axis in relationship houses, so something ought to happen.
Saturn goes direct at 4:00 am Monday morning, at 22 degrees 46′ of Libra. The few days around the station seem like nothing is happening, but the retrograde period was a chance to FINISH things or RESTRUCTURE payments, organizations, procedures, etc. Now that you have that spanking new filing system in place, keep it up and keep placing documents in their files as you go.
Jupiter at 3 degrees Gemini squares Neptune in Pisces at 3:56 am Monday. This aspect typically sets off a great religious or spiritual renewal at the societal or historical level. At the same time we need to beware of being scammed into donating our car to a charity that turns out to not be a charity, for example. In the words of one of the apocryphal gospel texts, give your money to the poor, but let the money sweat in your hand a little while you find out if this is a worthy place to donate it.
Mercury enters Leo at 10:24 pm Monday. Mercury in Leo is two-sided. On the one hand, he can come off sounding so dictatorial, as if everything HE says is SO much more important than what anyone else says. However, when they harness their flair for dramatic presentation, they can communicate in vividly and effectively. Yes, this is useful in the theatre, but can also be used in the classroom or boardroom (like when making otherwise boring presentations). They are capable of giving cold data a human touch. Famous people with Mercury in Leo include: Ernest Hemingway, Paul Tillich, Casey Stengel, Jimmy Dean, Eddie Fisher – now hold onto your seats for this trio: Napoleon, Fidel Castro, and Benito Mussolini.
Venus makes a Direct Station at 11:07 am Wednesday, at 7 degrees 30′ of Gemini. This is so that she can stand in the spotlight on the stage and let your applause wash over her like a big wave on the sand. So make some noise, throw some flowers, let her know you love her a lot. During the Venus retrograde, we may have had a change of heart about someone or something; now that Venus is moving forward, we need to hold on to this ability to give someone the benefit of the doubt, let them go if need be, but with every wish for their happiness. We need to guard against becoming hard-hearted again. On a practical note, if you have this station on a natal planet or in your second house of finances, you might see a wobble in the value of your bank account or investments or even a break in your income. Barbara Koval noted that when a Venus station occurred on sensitive degrees, prices for the dollar and commodities ruled by Venus (sugar, cattle, copper, art, money and banking) could see historic highs or lows.
The Sun opposes Pluto (11:02 am) and squares Uranus (4:10 pm) on Friday. This is a strong cardinal T-square, and makes for a day when you do not want to rock any boats, not a work where you could be fired in a second, not at home where you could be sleeping on the couch or have to spend a night at a motel. With Uranus there the chance of not only separations and estrangements, but also accidents or more likely, mechanical and electrical/electronic failures. So have your computer files backed up this week!

Your Milky Way Horoscope June 17-23, 2012

By Milky Way Maid

Happy Father’s Day this Sunday to all the dads! Both the sun and moon are in Gemini, putting everyone in a mood for short trips or visits, chatter, focusing on the small children and keeping them busy. In some ways, we may treat this like an ordinary day, filled with errands and email and daily life.
Happy Birthday, Cancer! And Happy Summer Solstice! The Sun enters Cancer on Wednesday at 7:09 pm. Happily, the Moon is also in mid-Cancer for a very watery solstice; let’s hope that translates into rain for some drought-affected areas. Cancer natives sometimes spend too much time declaring their feelings are hurt, when their real talent is for nurturing and soothing the emotional pains of others. Cancers can be notably persistent and tenacious, sentimental – keeping old souvenirs of your past, domestic – skilled in the culinary arts, Your ranks are filled with such different performers as Ringo Starr, trumpeter Louis Armstrong, choreographer Bob Fosse, Gower Champion, dancer Twyla Tharp, Merv Griffin, Paul Anka and pianist Van Cliburn. Other famous Cancerians include astronaut-senator John Glenn, Julius Caesar, Rembrandt, Nelson Rockefeller, Franz Kafka, Arthur Ashe, Marc Chagall, and Helen Keller.
Mercury at 22 degrees Cancer squares Saturn in Libra at 12:05 pm Wednesday. Mercury-Saturn sticks to the facts, thank you, and is interested in the bottom line. This may lead to more pink slips being issued just when the jobs report for the year thus far has been pretty good. Mercury-Saturn is typically interpreted as guilt and worry, with a capital G and a capital W. This is not a reassuring Solstice. On the plus side, Sun trine Neptune brings out the best of our giving nature, as we donate to food banks and share what we have with others.
Ceres enters Gemini at 6:52 pm Saturday. Ceres in Gemini people talk about health foods and the ecology. Helpful to one and all, they are quick to lend a hand. As natural teachers, they educate without lecturing or talking down to their audience; they may work with children who are retarded or have some kind of learning disability.
The Sun at 2 degrees Cancer trines Neptune in Pisces at 11:54 pm Saturday and into Sunday. Sun trine Neptune brings out the best of our altruistic side; idealism and creativity flourish, too.

2012 Venus Transit times, etc.

by Milky Way Maid

Dear Readers:
I wanted to post a bit more info on the spectacular and meaningful Venus transit of the Sun which occurs this week, along with a repost of my article from 6-15-2011.
OK, you came here looking for the exact times that Venus crosses the Sun. Here goes:
FIRST CONTACT: The leading edge of Venus first strikes the Sun in late afternoon of June 5 at 6”04 pm EDT. Venus begins her contact at the upper left (northeast) edge of the Sun’s disk, and proceeds to the lower right.
SECOND CONTACT: The point when the shadow of the planet Venus is entirely withing the Sun’s disk is projected to be at 6:22 pm EDT.
Note that times may vary by a minute or two depending on where you are in your time zone (in other words, your latitude). But I am assured that these times are exact for the cities of Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC.
LENGTH OF TRANSIT: Six hours. Natch, we will not be able to watch the entire transit because the Sun will SET at 8:21 pm on the East Coast. If you wanted to watch more of the transit, you should have booked a flight to Hawaii, Alaska, or perhaps Asia.
Venus will then become visible, like normal, after dawn on Wednesday.
PRECAUTIONS: Protect your eyesight if viewing this transit. Just like viewing an eclipse or any appearance of the sun, please wear protective goggles or use a pinhole viewer. One type of goggle or filter specifically recommended is the #14 welder’s filter. Even better are “Eclipse Shades” which are cheap and safe; they resemble 3D glasses for watching old sci-fi movies. Another option is a hand-held Eclipse Viewer available from Rainbow Symphony at rainbowsymphony.com/soleclipse.html
BINOCULARS: You may wish to view the eclipse closeup thru binoculars or a telescope. However, you still need a protective device, and it should cover the FRONT of the binocs, NOT over the eyepiece. Optical solar filters can be had from Orion Telescopes & Binoculars at telescope.com.
PINHOLE VIEWER: Take a piece of cardboard about 8 x 8 inches or so, punch a small hole in the center, and angle it so the sunlight peeps thru the hole onto a sheet of paper held below it. It really does work; I have used it years ago in viewing an eclipse. Experiment with moving the paper closer or further from the cardboard. You could also make a couple of cardboard viewers with different sizes of holes, from a pinprick to a nail hole to a hole punch.
THOUGHTS: Since the beginning of the current Mayan cycle was in about 3100 BC, and since the advent of writing also dates from that era, it is possible that this Venus transit may mark a radical advance in communications. See below for the mention of Susan Custer and her correlation of Venus transits with advances in communications. I have not tried to find if there was a Venus transit around 3100 BC, but the fact that a Venus transit occurs in the year of the end of the cycle is sure intriguing.

The article from June of 2011 follows here:
The year 2012 is not only the culmination of the Mayan calendar’s Long Count, it is not only marked by the Neptune-Pluto square (discussed in a previous entry on this column), it is also the year that Venus makes another trip across the Sun. AND we will also see a solar eclipse within weeks of that Venus transit, one that aligns with the Pleiades star cluster in the sign Taurus.
The ancient Mayans (not to mention astrologer Barbara Hand Clow) believe that the Pleiades was a gateway for the ancients to come to earth or conversely, for shamans of several cultures to expand their minds.
Venus does not cross the Sun but rarely. She makes her visits in pairs, spaced eight years apart. But these paired visits may occur 105-130 years apart. So we are rather privileged to be able to view her transits in this decade with all the high-power telescopes trained on her progress across the Sun.

Venus made a transit of the Sun in June 8, 2004, at 17 degrees Gemini. Venus will make her return trip on June 6, 2012 at 15 degrees Gemini. Astrologer Susan Custer interprets the Gemini transits as presaging advances in communications and shrinking the ‘global village.’ For example, the 1631 and 1639 transit was the year that mail service was first instituted, in Denmark and Sweden. In 1874, the Atlantic telegraph cable was completed. Magellan sailed around the globe during the Venus transits in the 1600s. You may read her article on the topic on her website, The Astrology Page dot com, at http://www.theastrologypage.com/Archives/transit_of_venus.htm

The Mayans revered Venus, some might say they feared her even more. But they built temples and other observatories aligned to key phases in her cycle. Kukulkan was deemed a manifestation of Venus. Kukulkan, according to some, symbolized the return of the Christ energy, a time to rebalance the spiritual and material values we hold.

Some transits of Venus have been accompanied by the most dreadful events. The 2004 transit marked the year of the gigantic tsunami that killed 275,000 people. Yet this event triggered a spontaneous outpouring of concern and donations for the relief of the survivors rendered homeless and jobless. (A previous transit marked the year that the Spanish conquistadores subjugated Mexico.)

The fact that this second leg of the series occurs in Gemini may hold out some hope that we may see an advance in communications or internet capability, similar to the Sagittarius transits in the 1600s.

Let’s look at what else happened in 2004 for more clues. On Jan. 4, 2004, Spirit, a NASA Mars Rover, lands on that planet. (It ceased communicating all too soon but was fixed remotely and resumed its chatter on Feb. 6.) The Queen Mary 2 is christened on Jan. 8. (She embarks on her first Trans-Atlantic crossing on April 16.)
On Feb. 12, the city of San Francisco began issuing marriage licenses to gay couples who wished to wed. Massachusetts legalizes same-sex marriage on May 17.
On March 15, the discovery of the farthest natural object in the solar system (so far) was announced with the naming of Sedna. On March 29, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia join NATO.
On April 1, Google introduced gmail.
On May 24, North Korea bans mobile phones. On May 26, the New York Times publishes a list of its journalistic failings, including flawed reporting about the buildup to the 2003 launch of the war in Iraq.
On June 11, the probe Cassini-Huygens makes its closest flyby of Phoebe.
On June 21 and Sept. 29, the first privately funded space plane achieves space flight, SpaceShipOne. On June 24, New York state declares capital punishment to be unconstitutional.
On Dec. 8, the Cuzco Declaration is signed in Cuzco, Peru, establishing the South American Community of Nations.
On Dec. 25, Cassini orbiter releases Huygens probe which successfully landed on Saturn’s moon Titan on January 14, 2005.
(Events listed above are from the HistoryOrb.com webpages.)

So we can see that 2004 was not just about gloom and doom and disaster, although some terrible hurricanes, earthquakes, and of course the Dec. 26 tsunami occurred. The year was also marked by private space travel, solar system discoveries and exploration, gmail, gay marriage rights, and the expansion of international working groups (NATO, the South American Community of Nations).

In 2012, we may see more ordinary people embark on space flights, the scientific conclusions of some of the 2004 landings may be released, gay marriage may once again go forward, and greater international cooperation.

Let us hope so, anyway.
——————————————————————————————
RE the solar eclipse of 2012, let me look in the ephemeris… NASA shows an Annular Solar Eclipse on May 20 – actually May 21 in Asia. Its path skirts the edges of the East China Sea, Japan, the Aleutian Islands, then to California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Texas. It is at zero degrees Gemini, reinforcing the Venus transit later in the same sign. BTW there is a conjunction of Saturn with the star Spica on May 11, the second of a series of contacts between them.

A chart cast for Washington D.C. on May 20, at 7 pm shows Mars high and conjunct the MC at 10 degrees Virgo. The Ascendant is 27 degrees Scorpio. Venus is setting and the Sun and Moon are just above the horizon in the West. Jupiter and Mercury are just below the horizon. Pluto is in the second house, Neptune in the third near the IC, Uranus in the fourth, Saturn in the eleventh. The MC and Mars trine Pluto. Venus is trine Saturn. Mercury is semisquare Uranus. Jupiter is sesquiquadrate Pluto.

Your Milky Way Horoscope June 10-16, 2012

By Milky Way Maid

Jupiter enters Gemini at 1:22 pm Monday, where it remains thru most of June, 2013. Jove in Gemini is quite the witty emcee. Jove here has many talents but patience and persistence are not among them. Doesn’t care for manual work or routine. Can find success in writing, brokerage, the education field, linguistics, performing (especially comedy), and in the airline or travel industries. Often has several projects going on at once; invented multi-tasking. Has a thousand questions but doesn’t always remember to wait for an answer. Famous people with Jupiter in Gemini include Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Phyllis Diller, Barbra Streisand, Charles Dickens, Dag Hammarskjold, Greta Garbo, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford II.
Mercury at 8 degrees Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn at 9:04 pm Monday. This aspect could border on obsession – but it’s good for dedicated research and analysis, or forensic work. On the lighter side, you enjoy cuddling up in the easy chair with a good murder mystery – or writing one!
Chiron makes a station in the wee hours Tuesday at 9 degrees of Pisces, ruling the feet. It is square Venus in Gemini and trine Mercury in Cancer. You might try some light massage to relieve any minor foot troubles; Venus offers a pedicure and skin salve, too.

Your Milky Way Horoscope June 3-9, 2012

By Milky Way Maid

Hey, in case you still haven’t heard, Venus will make one of her rare crossings of the Sun on June 5-6, 2012. The NASA.gov site will have live video of her trek on http://sunearthday.nasa.gov/2012/transit/webcast.php, the ShadowAndSubstance.com site is overloaded with visitors, but there is a whole website devoted to the topic at TransitofVenus.org Is that amazing or what? Astrologically, the Sun is conjunct Venus at 15 degrees Gemini at 9:09 pm Tuesday. On a personal level, this may merely mean more small talk with loved ones, being polite, dealing with money and/or possessions, being a salesperson.
Neptune goes retrograde on Monday at 5:03 pm, at 3 degrees, 9′ of Pisces. Neptune direct tends to swell things, things like the prices of stocks, hopes, water balloons. I fear that Neptune retrograde will let the air out of some balloons, literally and metaphorically.
This is the same day as the Lunar Eclipse at 14 degrees, 8′ Sag, at 7:03 am Eastern Time. The Moon also opposes Venus, which in turn squares Mars. Relationships begun under a Venus-Mars square can have an intense physical attraction, which unfortunately does not usually last very long. Mars does trine Vesta at 15 degrees Taurus, so lets hope that a sane, practical approach will solve money and relationship problems. ALSO, since this eclipse is followed shortly by the Venus crossing, that should give an extra oomph to breakthroughs or new inventions in communications.
Mercury enters Cancer at 7:16 am Thursday. Mercury in Cancer has strong intuitive ability – you just KNOW something without slogging thru a deductive process. If well-aspected, this Mercury has a great memory especially for facts and figures, dates and names. Their weakness is that their mental processes can be clouded by too much emotion; their strength is their empathetic sensitivity to others and ability to connect on an emotional level. Famous people with Mercury in Cancer include Thomas Mann, Prince Philip, Van Cliburn, Paul Anka and David Rockefeller.

A gift to my lovely readers —

As a special gift to my readers I thought you might enjoy some background music. A terrific writer and geek found these archived radio recordings of the Beatles for a Swedish radio show way back when. He cleaned them up a bit and edited them, and here they are. Five songs in cool condition. So turn up the volume alright already.
