Watch out for transits to your natal Chiron March 2009
I promised an Oscars column for the 2010 awards ceremony to be held in Los Angeles aka Tinseltown on March 7. Herewith are my predictions for the major categories. They are based on nominees’ birthdates that I could locate. I was able to find dates of birth for all the acting and directing nominees, but few of the writers unless they were also directors. That means that I can only take a stab at the screenplay categories, so bear with me. I also located 4 of the 5 nominees’ birthdates in the Best Animated Feature Film category. I also consulted online sources re who was favored in each category.
It is testimony to the fact that just being nominated is quite an honor. And as I counted up the contacts to each nominee’s chart, it was rare to find few such contacts. Most had some good contacts, and there were few obvious signs of disappointment or loss. They all get to be in the spotlight, on the red carpet and on television (and broadcast to millions more around the world), and they all go to splendid post-awards parties. As far as I can see, few of them will cry any actual tears at not winning.
How did I approach this task? First, I looked at a chart for the probable start time for the awards ceremony, based on the time of last year’s program. Place is obviously Los Angeles, or more specifically the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Center. Then I checked the ephemeris for which aspects were exact that day. There are only a few but they are quite energetic and promise a good time for viewers.
Venus in Pisces is quite active this week. On Monday about 2 am she is sextile Pluto in Capricorn at 4 degrees. About mid-morning, her partner Mars at 3 degrees Leo (retrograde) is sextile Saturn in Libra. I am thinking this might be a day when many of us think seriously about doing a makeover (Pluto), both in the more superficial matters like getting a new hairdo or having a skin treatment (Venus), and also in the area of changing our health and exercise (Mars) regimen (Saturn) in order to regain fitness and muscle (Mars). People with natal planets at 3 and 4 degrees will see effects more than the rest of us, especially if it falls on your ascendant. For instance, in my own case, Venus will be trine and Mars will be square my ascendant, so I will let you know what transpires.
On Tuesday, Venus at 6 degrees Pisces is conjunct the larger benefic Jupiter at 9:14 pm. One thing I can tell you from experience with Venus-Jupiter contacts (conjunction or trine) is that it is EXTREMELY easy to over-indulge (Jupiter) in sweets, since Venus rules sugar — to the point of getting sick. So Jupiter is not always a good thing. BUT I can also say that if you observe Valentine’s Day a bit late, that this can be a great time to spring a really big gift on someone. Travel or experiencing beauty and culture may also be on your agenda today. A few of you may even propose or marry on this day, and most likely the wedding and marriage will go splendidly.
Dear Readers: I am writing a separate column for Valentine’s Day which I am posting well ahead of this romantic date, so that all of you may try to make the most favorable plans for your day with your Significant Other.
Meanwhile, the first week of February features a Saturn square Pluto on Sunday, a Jupiter inconjunct Saturn on Friday, a Mercury sextile Uranus on Saturday morn and a Jupiter sextile Pluto on Saturday night. Capricorns are the focus of the week’s transits.
Saturn in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn at 4 degrees 21 minutes at 4:27 pm Sunday. This sounds rather grim, rather like the forest fire that consumes the stumps of the cut trees.
Jupiter at about 4 degrees 13 minutes of Pisces is 150 degrees from Saturn in Libra at 3:14 am Friday. Please note that Pluto is at 4 degrees of Capricorn also, square to Saturn. STAY OUT of dangerous parts of town! Take stock of whatever in your life is just not working, and either toss it out or seek counseling on how to get a new mindset. If affecting financial houses, you may have to tighten your belt another notch or two, sorry about that.
At 3 am Saturday morn, Mercury in Capricorn happily sextiles compatible Uranus in Pisces at 24 degrees. This aspect favors probing one’s own psychological depths, gaining insights or new info from your inner self or from study/research online or wherever, writing, speaking and other forms of communication (including ESP), listening to new ideas/concepts, and ALSO buying electronic or electrical products (up to and including cars). You may meet some very unusual people under this transit, too, so strike up chance conversations wherever you are because you could learn some very interesting stuff.
And on Saturday night, Jupiter sextiles Pluto at 12:51 pm. Jupiter excels at leadership and Pluto is heavily into power. So ambitious persons might make contact with those in the power structure of whatever (corporation, politics, media, a local club or Chamber of Commerce). Remember, use powers only for good. May express itself as a time of personal recharging, regeneration, or transformation in your life (note which house in your chart is affected). If you and your spouse are trying to conceive, this bit of luck can help you reach that happy event, if it is in relevant houses of your natal chart or synastry chart.
Mercury at 11 degrees Capricorn is inconjunct Mars in Leo at 8:40 pm Monday. Another in a series of adjustments will need to be made. People or entities turn out to be better (or worse) than you thought, so maybe your criteria or analysis methods will need tweaking. You may feel locked into defending your methods but give others a fair hearing, then decide. Let the pragmatic Capricorn have the upper hand this day.
Venus at 10 degrees Aquarius opposes Mars in Leo at 12:29 am Wednesday, Jan. 27. This aspect can make it too easy to use others as verbal punching bags; keep to the rules when fighting with your partner and then it is so much more fun to make up. Find constructive ways to blow off steam, then come back and figure how to broker a treaty or truce or something. Compromise is not equivalent to giving in; compromise is helping each other get what he/she wants without sacrificing everything you want.
The Sun opposes Mars in Leo at 2:43 pm Friday. This is great for making a super athletic effort but is just an argument waiting to happen otherwise. It’s good for debate, also, but please fight by the rules. Can be frustrating because the message of this aspect is that your desires may not be in harmony with what is best for your self-development. In other words, sometimes the best thing for you to do is wait and see if a better opportunity comes along; and frankly, most times a MUCH better opportunity comes along, sometimes within weeks.
A Full Moon in Leo occurs at 1:18 am Saturday with the Sun at 10 degrees Aquarius. Actually the Moon opposes the Sun first, then Venus; physical and emotional energies ebb and flow and you will need to be sensitive to your own rhythms. Push yourself to get the job done when your energy is high, and avoid trying to possess a loved one. Be content if alone or together.
Darn it, I see a lot of frustration for many signs this week, sorry about that. You will have to roll with the punches and have a Plan B on hand.

The Sun is conjunct Venus on Monday afternoon at 20 degrees Capricorn. This is not a very romantic sign for this conjunction, but it does emphasize family, genealogy, tradition, and history. Perhaps a couple enjoys working on family history together, researching online records or historical society artifacts. Perhaps a family business is born, one that allows the parents to carve out time with their children.
Venus sextiles Uranus early Wednesday at 23 degrees Capricorn/Pisces. An online romance may blossom. Some of us may be able to find customers using the internet auctions or other web sites. You may attract unusual people into your life, possibly creative types, and may hit upon unusual ways of expressing yourself in the arts or music. Unexpected or exciting things may come into your life, up to and including a windfall. This Venus-Uranus aspect also ties into the Nodes at 21 degrees of Cancer/Capricorn, and Neptune at almost 25 degrees Aquarius. So the opportunity is there for events to push you along on a path of spiritual development.
Rah, Mercury goes direct on Friday, Jan. 15, at 11:52 am at 5 degrees 35 minutes of Capricorn. As always, be cautious for about three days before or after a Mercury station, as this is often when people get their signals mixed or accidents happen. But hopefully you have used the retrograde period to learn more about a situation or person, and reassess.
Saturn also makes a station (retrograde) at 10:56 am Wednesday at 4 degrees 39 minutes of Libra. It will remain retrograde till late May. Natives of cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will likely be even more frustrated than before. You are normally one who likes to get things done and get it done quickly, so being told to come back tomorrow (or do it over) is going to drive you bonkers. In patience possess ye your souls.
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop. Also note: some aspects are exact on a weekend but may find opportunity for expression on the Friday or Monday nearest the exact aspect. Times given are in Eastern Standard or Eastern Daylight Savings Time depending on the season.
ARIES – March 20-April 19 – Saturn makes a station in your solar seventh house on Wednesday; marriage and other partnerships can be tested. Whether it is best to not see each other for a time, or actively work on the relationship with things like counseling or marriage enrichment, is up to you. But developing empathy and accepting imperfections should be uppermost. Matters related to career may finally move forward again when Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on Friday.
TAURUS – April 20-May 20 – Saturn makes a station in your solar sixth house on Wednesday; your health may be a concern at least until it goes direct again in late May. Take steps to guard your health, because worry and anxiety can drain your energy and deplete vitamins. Get back on a proper regimen of rest and exercise to maintain energy levels. Matters related to higher education, law or publishing may finally move forward again when Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on Friday.
GEMINI – May 21-June 20 – Saturn makes a station in your solar fifth house on Wednesday; creative projects may stall or you begin researching the history of one of the arts. Writers may get writers’ block; parents may begin to look upon their children as burdens. But you are forced to delve into the underlying spiritual riches in an art, a child, or your own creative struggles. Mercury goes direct in your solar eighth house and may finally unsnarl problems with health insurance or estate paperwork.
CANCER – June 21-July 22 – Saturn makes a station in your solar fourth house on Wednesday; you become more conservative than ever and fear changes. The mother or other family member may become a source of concern or worry, but I am sure you will weather the personal trial and enrich your relationship. Take opportunities to capture retelling of family stories on tape or video. Matters related to partnerships may finally move forward again when Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on Friday.
LEO – July 23-Aug. 22 – Saturn makes a station in your solar third house on Wednesday; this can really put a snag in transit or travel this winter/spring until Saturn turns direct in late May. Put off any vacation plans till summer at least, as the connections may not work out smoothly. Even local commutes may run into snarls so try different routes as needed. Matters related to health or jobs may finally move forward again when Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on Friday. You will need to continue guarding your health tho, at least till Mars goes safely direct again in March. Take care.
VIRGO – Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – Saturn makes a station in your solar second house on Wednesday; pull back on outgoing expenses for now until you find out how this affects you personally. You might find that a source of income dries up temporarily, at least until Saturn goes direct again in late May. Your thrift and practicality are tested again, but you get by with hard work and sharing with others. Matters related to children and creative pursuits may finally move forward again when Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on Friday.
LIBRA – Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Saturn makes a station in your sign at 10:56 am Wednesday; you may have to dig deep into yourself to find the discipline and organization and yes, the drive to achieve your goals in 2010. Matters related to home and family may finally move forward again when Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on Friday. Mars retrograding in your eleventh house means meetings with friends or clubs may be cancelled or postponed while health or debt issues are worked out.
SCORPIO – Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – The Moon is in Scorpio as Sunday rolls in, until midday. Sunday overnight has a square from the Moon to Uranus after midnight; possibly you might have colorful, exciting dreams or even nightmares. The morning features squares to Neptune and then Jupiter. This can mean emotional hurts and fears, but realizing that we all have imperfections will go a long way towards repairing relationships. The early am aspect to Neptune makes escapism tempting, but meditation is probably your best option. The Jupiter aspect at mid-morning adds a keen interest in religious, spiritual or philosophical ideas.
SAGITTARIUS – Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – The Moon is in Sag from 1:10 pm till late Tuesday. The Moon remains un-aspected till a sextile to Saturn at 10 pm; you can clear out several chores before bedtime and have things ready for the morning rush. The Moon trines Mars in Leo on Monday evening; take in a game or play a competitive round of golf/tennis/whatever. Tuesday has a square to Uranus about 11 am; emotional upsets are possible at home but step back and look at things coolly. A sextile to Neptune-Jupiter puts you on the sunny side of the street the afternoon and evening.
CAPRICORN – Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – The Moon is in Capricorn from 11:54 pm till midday Friday. The Moon is conjunct Pluto and square Saturn on Wednesday morn; you are awfully tempted to pull the plug on a job or relationship but I urge you to deliberate; Saturn is going retrograde and you may have to patch things up later. The Moon is conjunct Mercury at midday; the phone rings off the hook, and emails fly as you clear up misunderstandings ahead of Mercury’s direct station on Friday. Early Thursday you are challenged to re-evaluate your investments, insurance, or estate matters. A health issue may be the spur to changing things around. The Moon is conjunct not only the Sun on the first Solar Eclipse of the year but also Venus. Wishing you much love and kindness in 2010.
AQUARIUS – Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – The Moon is in Aquarius from 12:17 pm Friday till early next Sunday. A Moon-Saturn trine late Friday helps you establish goals for the week and year, or just tackle items on your to-do list. A Moon-Mars opposition about 6 pm Saturday makes you extremely competitive; also you might work out your frustrations at the gym. It is best that you ‘get physical’ in a positive way, because your irritability, especially with women, can cost you a lot of good will.
PISCES – Feb. 18-March 19 – The Moon in Sag squares Uranus in your sign midday Tuesday; this might signal an emotional storm so hold onto your center of balance. Uranus in your sign receives a sextile from Venus early Wednesday; women friends may surprise you with a gift, or you may just really, really enjoy a girls night out. Saturn makes a station in your solar eighth house on Wednesday; your quest for monetary security can meet with reverses, so do not entrust your whole life savings to any one person or company. Matters related to club membership or friends may finally move forward again when Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on Friday.
Blue Moon: The second Full Moon in a given month.
Black Moon: The second New Moon in a given month. ALSO: a month without either a New Moon or a Full Moon (this can happen only in February.)
Blue Moons are linked to unexpected good fortune according to folklore. The hill people of the Appalachian mountains credit Blue Moons with all kinds of good luck in love, happiness, business, and serendipitous events.
