Your Milky Way Horoscope Dec. 23-29, 2012

By Milky Way Maid

Mars enters Aquarius at 7:49 pm Tuesday, Christmas Day. Mars in airy Aquarius is stronger when he joins as part of a group in working towards realizing his ideals on earth. Aquarians field of action tends to be more intellectual than practical, but that may depend on where other personal planets are positioned. Mars represents energies, and so the placement of the planet generally indicates where you need to expend much of your energy. In Aquarius, one’s understanding of human nature, and love of humanity in general, can be applied to many fields. An Aquarian loves watching children develop and grow, so he or she may go into education or simply have as large a family as his budget allows. Aquarians can go into politics, medicine, writing, or anything that requires detailed planning. Famous people born with Mars in Aquarius include: authors Victor Hugo, J D Salinger and Truman Capote, astronaut Virgil Grissom, playwright Edward Albee, actress Julie Christie, whimsical cartoonist Arthur Goldberg, photographer Edward Steichen, composer Richard Wagner, and politicians Charles de Gaulle and Adlai Stevenson.

Christmas Day features the Moon moving into Gemini at 2:13 am, plus the moon joins up with Jupiter – a rather euphoric conjunction, possibly from genuine Christmas cheer (not the liquid kind). The Sun squares Uranus in the evening, a rather upsetting aspect that makes one want to fight City Hall at the drop of a hat – although it could also give rise to original inventiveness or insights. So do not be upset if junior takes apart that expensive electronic toy; he is just learning how to build a better one.

We have a Full Moon at 5:21 am on Dec. 28, at 7 degrees Cancer. Plus, the Sun is nearly conjunct Pluto and the lights square Uranus. Hmmm, expect the unexpected. Many of us may be in a rebellious mood against City Hall or against the banksters. Perhaps the strongest statement any consumer can make during the holiday shopping season is to pay cash and scale down the spending.

Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop. NOTE: some aspects are exact on a weekend but may find opportunity for expression on the Friday or Monday nearest the exact aspect. Times given are in Eastern Standard or Eastern Daylight Savings Time depending on the season.

ARIESMarch 20-April 19 – Mars enters your solar eleventh house on Tuesday; your social group becomes a greater focus of activity this coming month. Your driving could be distracted on Christmas night; please be extra alert. You thoroughly enjoy visiting relatives midweek, catching up on the gossip and playing games. Your mind is on family the latter part of the week as well as on the holiday, so I imagine you are taking kids sledding and stuff like that.

TAURUSApril 20-May 20 – The week starts off with the Moon in comfortable Taurus, until early Tuesday. Sunday morning has the Moon opposite Saturn, possibly indicating someone who stands over you and makes sure that your work gets done or tosses more into your “in” basket. Monday offers time to be creative, especially if you get up extra early to write in your journal. Mars enters your solar tenth house on Tuesday; you realize that one of the perks of being a big shot is having more influence on community projects.

GEMINIMay 21-June 20 – Mars enters your solar ninth house on Tuesday; you are stimulated by new classes or internet-based studies. The Moon is in Gemini from 2:13 am Tuesday until Thursday afternoon. Early risers on Christmas Day may be so fuzzy-headed that they overlook a gift. But by midday they enjoy lots of laughs with friends. Supper hour is euphoric tho you may overdo on the feasting and drinks. Early risers on Wednesday start writing their thank-you notes.

CANCERJune 21-July 22 – Mars enters your solar eighth house on Tuesday; you rationally try to divide debts into regular monthly payments. The Moon is in Cancer from 3:06 pm Thursday until early next Sunday (Dec. 30). Cancerians are rather buoyant Thursday afternoon, with Neptune acting as a giant air balloon for your mood. You might enjoy a night at the movies. You might call mom Friday night and she is really very lovely to you yet cannot resist laying down a little guilt trip. Saturday can be a really creative day for you if you plan time for it, and set out your paints or other materials.

LEOJuly 23-Aug. 22 – Mars enters your solar seventh house on Tuesday; you initiate introductions not only of yourself but to others who might have shared interests with those you already know. You may have more fun with friends than with family on Christmas Day, catching up with all the chatter or playing games with their children.

VIRGOAug. 23-Sept. 22 – Mars enters your solar sixth house on Tuesday; you volunteer your time in humanitarian or charitable drives. Also, it is advisable to watch your heart health and diet. You may enjoy being with seniors on Christmas Day, possibly volunteering at a hospital or assisted-living center. You catch up with friends during the latter part of the week.

LIBRASept. 23-Oct. 22 – Mars enters your solar fifth house on Tuesday; your drive for creative expression returns, as well as a joy in watching youngsters grow. Cardinal signs could be distracted or upset on Christmas night, so if travelling please use extra care. You are extra busy at work the latter part of the week, and with extra pressure to get some things done before the weekend.

SCORPIOOct. 23-Nov. 21 – Mars enters your solar fourth house on Tuesday; you put some effort into family relationships this coming month in spite of differences of opinion. You spend the days after Christmas tossing out the old to make room for all the wonderful new stuff you received. You may be put in charge of something Friday, so look alive, kiddo.

SAGITTARIUSNov. 22-Dec. 21 – Mars enters your solar third house on Tuesday; you try to use logic and other rational means to convince or teach others. That approach usually goes over like a lead balloon, so try to think of stories to illustrate a point. Your mate may be in a super-good mood at Christmas, and chatting a mile-a-minute, too.

CAPRICORNDec. 22-Jan. 19 – Mars enters your solar second house on Tuesday; you may buy things and then decide you do not want them, so avoid impulse spending. Cardinal signs could be distracted or upset on Christmas night, so if travelling please use extra care. On Wednesday night you enjoy visiting mentors or older relatives.

AQUARIUSJan. 20-Feb. 17 – Mars enters your sign on Tuesday; you might be more impulsive yet also more expressive, and sensitive to musical rhythms. Go dancing more often this coming month. Your children are thrilled with their presents Christmas Day, and you enjoy their happy chatter as they play with new toys. On Thursday night you ponder a more rational approach to your diet and exercise habits.

PISCESFeb. 18-March 19 – Mars enters your solar twelfth house on Tuesday; you may work on manifesting the personal dream of peace among men and nations. Your favorite place on Christmas Day is at home, with your own family. I see a lot of children in the house. Relatives from out of town may be staying as a guest in your home.

Your Milky Way Horoscope Dec. 26-Jan. 1, 2011

By Milky Way Maid

Sunday the 26 of December is known as Boxing Day; this year it features the Sun conjunct Pluto at 5 degrees of Capricorn. This aspect helps one not only remake oneself, but can help you discover your own power to make or remake your life. Pluto is also sometimes called the wipeout planet; in this case you can wipe the slate clean and start over. Or you can clear out everything that you no longer need or use, and enjoy having enough room to breathe.

Mars in Capricorn squares Saturn at 16 degrees of Libra at 10:29 am Wednesday. Mars-Saturn squares often are accompanied by breakage, including of bones. Be careful out there, be safety conscious, and put salt on icy sidewalks.

That square comes the day before Mercury goes in direct motion, at 19 degrees, 38 minutes of Sag, at 2:21 am Thursday. Exercise the usual caution a few days before and after the direct station, as these are prime periods for rushed work and errors.

Friday has a lovely Moon-Venus conjunction in Scorpio, so assuming you get through the last days of the year in good order, you can relax with your significant other – preferably at home with the romantic dinner (or breakfast, as it is exact at 8:11 am Friday) of your choice.

NEW YEAR’S EVE: The worm turns. Saturn is rising in a chart for midnight, creating a rather serious and sober mood. The South Node at 2 degrees of Cancer is high at the Midheaven (6 degrees), which sometimes signifies the least-likely-to-succeed wins it all. (It was located there when 50-1 long-shot Mine That Bird won the Kentucky Derby.) So take a flyer on the door prize or buy the quick-pick lotto ticket, ‘cuz you never know. (Pluto and the nodes square the Ascendant, creating opportunity to remake one’s self and one’s life, go from rags to riches or vice-versa.)

The Moon at 2 degrees of optimistic and freewheeling Sag is also inconjunct the South Node, another indicator of an upset in the making. The public (Moon) is surprised by the outcome of events. This is akin to New Orleans upset of Indianapolis in last year’s Super Bowl. The Moon is also sextile the Ascendant at 5 degrees Libra. Do you have any natal planets or angles at 2 to 6 degrees of a sign? The year could get off to a very interesting start!

Yikes, I have a natal chart with 3 degrees rising, trining Mars at the same degree, and square Uranus in Leo also at 3 degrees. Hmmm, I will have to set aside a few singles for the Lotto and whatever else there is. Will see if I can find any events at New Year’s at any local spots. Wish me luck, guys, I really need it. I have felt so jinxed these last six months or so.

PS: Well, so far this was not a good week for me. I was sick a good part of the week with chills – in bed, in fact – and offline much of the rest of the time. So I did not finish the column. Please forgive me. Or cut off my head, whatever. Just get it over with in either case…

Your Milky Way Horoscope Dec. 19-25, 2010

By Milky Way Maid

The Moon inconjunct Pluto and Mars in Capricorn on Sunday, Dec. 19 can make many of us frustrated with the powers that be. Try some attitude therapy: repeat that little prayer of St. Francis about gaining the wisdom to know the difference… The Moon is actually the focal point of a Yod, with Venus in Scorpio making the other leg of the elongated triangle. (You may have to give up the tug-of-war with a loved one, and accept them as they are.) My personal experience is that Yods are not lucky at all. I know someone with a birthday on this day, so it should be an interesting year of changes for him. (Also, Venus, Pluto and Mars can also relate to issues with cash and debt; many of us may be forced to deal with money in a much more controlled way. Venus is cash and income, Mars is debt, Pluto is the holder of the debt, the mortgage, or having to declare bankruptcy.)
Mercury in Sag squares Uranus at 26 degrees of Pisces at 6:30 pm Monday. Do not buy any mechanical or electronic items the previous weekend, and wait till this aspect passes. Trines and sextiles are much better for buying such items, if you want them to be as trouble-free as possible. It is good for brainstorming or inventing (well, tinkering might be a better word). Oh, and do be careful when setting up holiday light displays; watch for safety, and don’t overload fuses.
The Sun enters Capricorn at 6:38 pm Tuesday, Dec. 21. Happy birthday to all Capricorns this month. The ingress is marked by a Full Moon this time, at 29 degrees Gemini (opposing Mercury), plus a lunar eclipse on the Winter Solstice. The Sun is nearly conjunct Pluto and Mars, while Mercury squares Jupiter (exact at 8 pm Tuesday). Late degrees can be very fortunate, and a Full Moon at the end of Gemini could signal an upswing in the fortunes of newspapers, media, writers in general, and brokers.
A chart for the Sun ingress, set for Washington DC, has the Moon in the twelfth house, and Sun-Mercury-Mars-Pluto-North Node in the sixth house of health and jobs. The unemployment reports will be a big concern for the public (Moon, which squares the Midheaven). Jupiter and Uranus square Sun-Mercury in Capricorn, probably magnifying the distress and worry over bad news. It is hard for me to find some reason to expect good news from this transit, and I can only hope that people go ahead and have a cheerful if modest holiday celebration. Christmas comes only once a year, and we all take comfort in our annual traditions.
The Ascendant at 24 degrees Cancer puts the accent on family, home, traditions, and our emotional connections with others. So pull out the oldest ornaments and hang them on the tree, dig up the most traditional carols and sing them together, and in general just have yourselves a merry little Christmas now.
On Christmas morning, the Moon opposes Neptune at 4:28 am (and trines Mercury), giving everything a glamorous and magical shine. People will tend to want to cocoon this morning, and possibly nip a bit too much of the eggnog. Music will seem more beautiful and truer, so play all your seasonal music and enjoy it to the hilt. Rock around the Christmas tree, if that’s your style, but make room for Bing, too.

Your Milky Way Horoscope Dec. 14-20, 2008

Mars in Sagittarius squares Saturn in Virgo on Monday. We’re supposed to put a positive spin on everything nowadays, but this is a classic transit for a bone fracture. Can you skip the ski day and just take pictures or something? And salt that ice by the side door, would you?
The Sun is inconjunct the Moon on Sunday. On the one hand, it is a very creative aspect for couples to get together and do their holiday decorating. On the other hand, prepare for having to negotiate differences in taste. Maybe the gold trimmings can go on the tree in the front room, and the blue trimmings on the rec room tree??
BTW I want to give a mention to the Holiday Control Journal available from the FlyLady people at If you always feel overwhelmed by the Thanksgiving-to-New-Year’s ordeal, give the Control Journal a shot. It’s free, just go to the site and print it out. It breaks down all the tasks that have to be done to make your holidays run smooth. If you make this part of your annual routine, you will never again have to run out at the last minute to find a gift for Aunt Mable because you forgot.

Economic Forecast for the Christmas Shopping Season

Having spent several years tracking the behavior of Christmas shoppers by the timing of Mercury stations, retrogrades and direct motion, I find that all that history is not applicable to the upcoming Christmas shopping season. Mercury is not retrograde any part of the holiday season proper; in fact, the last retrograde was Sept. 25 thru Oct. 15, ending right about the time all heck broke loose in the stock market.
Nevertheless, I will plunge onward with a stab at the behavior of shoppers this holiday season by looking at the flavors, so to speak, of the personal planets during these last few weeks of the year.
Let’s start with Mercury.

Christmas Week, December 2007

Merry Christmas, everybody! Christmas morning this year is an at-home, private event. Forego the rushing from house to house; just let the kids stay in their jammies, put out a cold buffet of cheese, crackers and finger foods, and let everyone relax. Feel the love for a minute. Evening is right for visiting the grandparents, tho. — Many of you received a lovely fashionable scarf for Christmas. Do you know what to do with it? Go to Missus Smarty Pants at for free directions on how to use your oblong scarf to great effect! (Free webpage.)
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop

Aries – March 20-April 19 – Ann Miller – Your career really gets a boost this week and all through the coming new year, woo-hoo! Discipline in your health routine will keep your batteries charged for what is sure to be a busy, demanding year. The home front on Christmas eve will probably be a snarl of short tempers and frustrations. Just pitch in with last minute tasks, and tell the spouse to let go of the rest — it’s not worth the aggravation she gives herself.

Taurus – April 20-May 20 – Fred Astaire – Artistic discipline is the keyword for the week (and for almost two years, really). If you write, get in the habit of writing something every day. If you paint, sing, play, whatever, find a good teacher or educational program and apply yourself every day. For Christmas, just having the loving mate you lucked onto is enough. Show you appreciate every minute.

Gemini – May 21-June 20 – Bill “Bojangles” Robinson – You will be so tempted to blow your gift budget and pull out credit cards in last minute shopping. Stop! Stop! You’ve spent enough, done enough, and all they want from you is your presence (not your presents). And the latest gossip, of course, which you are all too glad to dish out.

Cancer – June 21-July 22 – Rasta Thomas – Aim to get done with preparations by Christmas eve, because by that time, you will be as tired and cranky as a toddler who’s missed his nap. Spend Christmas eve counting blessings. Plan a simpler Christmas Day, let the kids help with tasks, push some family get-togethers back to the weekend when everyone has had a chance to catch their breaths.

Leo – July 23-Aug. 22 – Mata Hari – If you didn’t get what you hoped for Christmas, or if you got gift cards, you will eagerly scoop up discounted fashions on Wednesday. Only don’t run up some more credit card debt, for pete’s sake. Your health takes a turn for the better. Ailments or injuries of long standing may finally heal properly.

Virgo – Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – Marge Champion – Your creative urges are revived and demand expression. Try shopping for art supplies or a class this week, especially Friday. You will enjoy a year-long boom in any creative endeavor — now, this may mean having a baby, but usually it means writing a book, or getting a play produced, or painting a picture, etc. Fri. & Sat. are best days.

Libra – Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Fayard Nicholas – Christmas eve day at work has folks blurting out their frustrations. Just do your part to get deadlines met before the office closes for the holiday. Seek out after Christmas bargains in art supplies for painting, photography, or music. Invest in You. Your muse settles in for a spell, so she needs to feel welcome and honored. It feels like your connection to the sacred is worked out in your medium.

Scorpio – Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – Savion Glover – The volume of messages picks up considerably this week. People you re-connect with, and new contacts, too, remain in touch for at least the coming year. Writing projects also start to bear fruit, with you finding a publisher and an audience. In the artistic arena, start seeking a strong teacher if are serious about learning more about your craft.

Sagittarius – Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – Merrill Ashley – The big hot-air balloon that carried you through 2007 is continuing on its merry way without you. So sorry, but it is back to normal for you… You’ll survive being just folks, honest. You’ll have time for renovating the home electrical system, and a new phone or computer hardware or software. A disciplined approach to work pays off.

Capricorn – Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – George Balanchine – You get a real boost of expansive good cheer this Christmas. Just about everyone sends you sincere best wishes. Even if 2009 brings challenges, a guardian angel spreads protective wings around you. On the creative front, formal classes in something like painting or even landscaping can light a fuse. Painting or photographing still lifes provides endless material for experimentation.

Aquarius – Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – Mikhail Baryshnikov – You are often generous to a fault, and this year is no exception. Rest assured, you are appreciated and darn near irreplaceable. The week may start off with an upset stomach, so take special care not to overdo on spicy or unfamiliar foods. Don’t plan anything for Thursday morning, you may be on a sugar high from holiday sweets or drinks.

Pisces – Feb. 18-March 19 – Marius Petipa – You probably gave yourself way too much to do this week, right? Now you’re tearing your hair out as usual trying to keep up. Hold on now, just take 15 minutes per task or per room. If you don’t have 15 minutes, take 10 minutes. Or even just TWO. It will get done, just jump in where you are, and set some small chores for the kids so they feel like they are a real part of the family, too.

A gift to my lovely readers —

As a special gift to my readers I thought you might enjoy some background music. A terrific writer and geek found these archived radio recordings of the Beatles for a Swedish radio show way back when. He cleaned them up a bit and edited them, and here they are. Five songs in cool condition. So turn up the volume alright already.
