Lots of aspects this week so some of these notes will be very short.
Mercury in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces at 7:13 pm Sunday. Ha, Virgo Mercury wants everything precise and neatly stashed in its place, and Neptune tears thru and makes everything look like a tornado went thru the place. Mercury-Neptune hard aspects make for fuzzy thinking and guesstimates. Or maybe you put something in a perfectly logical place and darn if you can find it later. You may be frustrated by another person who is the Oscar to your Felix.
Venus in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries at 1:56 pm Monday. Just as with the other Venus-Uranus aspects, you may meet unusual folks or foreigners who open your mind a bit to other ways of living and thinking. Might become rather enamored of them but these liaisons are rather short-lived as the other person tends to value their freedom too much to get tied down.
Sun opposite Neptune in Pisces at 9:43 pm Monday. Similar to the Merc-Nep opposition except that you get lost, or the person you were supposed to meet gets lost or calls in sick. Being confused, and having confused information given to you.
Mercury in Virgo sextiles Saturn in Scorpio at 5:45 am Tuesday. This is ideal for not only detailed work but for drawing up detailed plans for the whole week or month. Good for studies in any subject but especially science, ruled by Saturn. Sometimes means saying goodbye to someone, usually for all the socially-acceptable reasons.
Venus in Libra squares Jupiter in Cancer at 5:53 pm Tuesday. Being gluttonous and wasteful, not managing money well – sometimes to the point of bouncing a check. In love matters, can mean longing for someone well above one’s social station.
Mars enters Leo at 10:05 pm Tuesday. Mars is very well-placed in Leo, a sign that is noted for courage when the going gets tough. Mars in Leo can be larger than life, a real hero figure. Can make dramatic shows of authority over others, that is, “lording it” over the underlings. A more mature type can use this kingly energy to inspire others to magnificent effort. Has a warmth of expression and an open manner, plus huge drive, that draws others to follow him. Famous people with Mars in Leo include: actor Gregory Peck, comedian and actor Jackie Gleason, President Harry Truman, Eugene McCarthy, actress Helen Hayes, baseball manager Casey Stengel, Willie Mays, talk-show host and game-show mogul Merv Griffin, and architect Le Corbusier.
Mercury trines Pluto in Capricorn at 10:50 am Wednesday. Mercury plus Pluto can mean controlling words, and motivating others could be one manifestation. Also you may deliberately choose an affirmation (power words) to keep you on track for your goals for the month.
The Sun sextiles Saturn at 1:18 am Friday. One feels a sense of pride for what one has accomplished – may or may not be accompanied by any reward or pat on the back.
Mercury sextiles Jupiter in Cancer at 11:10 pm Friday. This aspect is like the Merc-Saturn sextile in that it is helpful in one’s studies. Mercury is practical knowledge and Jove is theoretical knowledge, so learning the how-to gets backed up with the underlying principles or with natural laws. Jupiter can also bring luck in word games, etc. as you play along with Wheel of Fortune or the like. It means being optimistic, laughing at oneself, being witty, schmoozing easily with others.

Venus in Libra squares Pluto at 4 degrees Capricorn at 9:08 pm Sunday. Venus square Pluto usually translates as obsessive attachment to a romantic Other, unfortunately all to often this Other is not interested at all. Sometimes it manifests as a controlling relationship (not healthy at all). OK, the highest expression would be a love that is transformative, helping one to become a better person. So there is not much to choose from on a realistic level here.
Mars enters fiery Leo at 9:51 pm Sunday. This is a great position for Mars natally, as fiery Mars is quite at home in fire sign Leo; also these natives often have the opportunity to prove their great leonine courage with this placement. Mars here also favors sports and athletics in general; we may see some good national league games.
Sun in Virgo is inconjunct Neptune at 28 degrees Aquarius at 10:17 pm Wednesday. This can be a debilitating aspect, and people with natal contacts to these planets may be easily exhausted. So pace yourself, or let others help you out.
Venus in Libra is inconjunct retrograde Jupiter at 9 degrees Taurus at 1:23 pm Thursday. Some of us may have to make adjustments to how we express our affection and good natures. We may have to rely less on material expressions (meaning, buying gifts) and more on giving of ourselves.
The Sun enters Libra at 5:05 am Friday, the day of the fall equinox. It could be a wonderful and inspiring day, with the Moon and Mars in Leo trine Uranus in Aries.
Mercury in Virgo is inconjunct Neptune at 28 degrees Aquarius at 11:48 pm Saturday. This can be a classic example of confused communications and garbled messages, so hang on and give each other a break.
PS – I am listing a few used astrology books for sale on Amazon Books; Part Two was posted July 1! Look for reviews in my column with a link to the listing. Even more titles to come soon. Thanks for your support (and patience). Note that the Intuition book, listed in Part One, has sold.

Lately I have been getting hints to pay attention to retrogrades. This past weekend I watched a DVD of a 2007 film titled “The Dark Backward”; it was nothing about astrology, of course, just a weird comedy about a guy who grows a third arm on his back and tries to boost his career as a stand-up comic with it. Then there was a chapter in a book, “The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King” (about the biggest poker stakes games in Vegas ever played) called The Last Lesson of Professor Backward. Then I finally pick up my copy of Dell Horoscope, the April issue, and find an article on planet retrogrades.
Aha, I say to myself, this must be what all those hints are about. I knew of course that Mars is currently retrograding. Mars had its retrograde station on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 8:27 am ET, at 19 degrees 42 minutes of proud Leo. This was right after an exciting Venus square Uranus on Saturday, so I imagine there were a lot of nascent romances that failed to get off the ground after an interesting start that Saturday. BUT fear not, things could revive again once Mars is direct and reaches that 19 degree point.
ALSO, romances that DID start while Mars was retrograde can fizzle once Mars goes direct. (This all depends on aspects in effect at first meeting.)
Anyway, Mars goes back to the beginning of Leo and turns direct Wed., March 10 at 12:09 pm ET, at about zero degrees 18 minutes of Leo. It will not reach the retrograde degree until mid-May! BTW the critical degrees of fixed signs are 8 and 22 degrees; Mars contacted that point the first couple days of February (in retrograde motion) and will grind over that point again April 18-21. It will hit 22 Leo on May 22-24. So if you have natal planets at those degrees, keep an eye peeled for what transpires. Leo rules show business, actors, casinos, gamblers, and celebs in general.
This fall Venus will go retrograde for six weeks, from Oct. 8-Nov. 18, going direct the same day that Jupiter goes direct in Pisces. Venus goes retro at 13 degrees Scorpio, a sign she is not really comfortable in, and goes direct in her home sign Libra at 27 degrees. Venus wants to put her relationships on an equal footing, in a loving, positive, and socially-recognized level. It has nothing to do with what others think of her, it has to do with being a grownup and taking responsibility for the health and well-being of the relationship. As a friend recently wrote in a blog, the primary consideration in the relationship has to be the relationship itself, not the well-being of either party. You do whatever is needed to feed and nurture the relationship, and you do it willingly.
The late degree of Libra also strongly suggests that many relationships will turn into marriages or at least committed live-in arrangements. Weddings to desirable ‘catches’ can occur under these late degrees.
ARIES – March 20-April 19 – There are no major transits this week to Aries, so you will probably be able to accomplish a lot of work without much interference or blockage. Your solar third and fifth houses will be very active (as they probably were last week) with several planets in Gemini and Mars in Leo. Possibly a pile of messages and emails will fly thru your phone, possibly some of them will be related to your children or any creative or theatrical projects. The only snag may be from the Moon opposing your sign on Wed.-Fri. Your partner or spouse may be extra emotional on those days so just take it with a grain of salt, and offer to pitch in with chores.
TAURUS – April 20-May 20 – Set your agenda for the week and cross off lots from your to-do list. Lots of messages relating to second-house issues this week (money, possessions) so be sure to keep up with emails. Sunday night thru Tuesday the Moon is in your fifth house, putting the accent on creative expression and/or children. You might enjoy helping at a school or daycare center, or hosting an overnighter for one of your own children. Check out parentcenter.baby center.com for ideas on hosting the best sleepover ever.
A New Moon on Tuesday at 13 degrees Gemini is especially powerful as it conjuncts Venus, the Sun, and Mercury and also sextiles Mars in Leo. This is a LOT of Geminian energy, creating a lot of chatter, messaging, and news reports, but with Mercury retrograde I think that much of our efforts will have to be repeated, done over, or corrected after Mercury goes direct. Possibly facts will come to light that show where errors in calculations were made, such as with space modules that were programmed incorrectly and crash into their targets. The sextile to Mars is funny because the NASA module just landed on that planet, but Geminians might meet their significant other at a party or get married, or just have a great time playing sports. Mercury is also squaring Uranus — giving problems with electronic or mechanical objects — and trining Neptune and the North Node — giving you a chance to revisit metaphysical subjects or personal growth life-paths. The number 13 is a soul number, meaning that events initiated on this day may not prosper materially, but you will find spiritual growth in facing challenges or studying metaphysical books.
PS – Saturday should be a GREAT day to hold a rummage sale! Mercury, Sun, Venus all conjunct each other in the early am, meaning that buyers and sellers agree on a price.
The Moon is in Aquarius thru the holiday weekend — bringing an airy quality. No smothering allowed at family get-togethers, but it would be classy if you at least made an appearance. I am really going out on a limb here, but I predict the weather will even cooperate with dry (well, mostly dry) conditions. The weather can be changeable tho, so take sun screen and a jacket. The only threat is that of fire from the Mars in Leo Sunday afternoon, so be super conscientious about charcoal embers, and set grills/roasters well away from your home.
The other thing is that Mercury goes retrograde at 11:48 am Eastern time on Memorial Day –Make sure you have enough gas in the tank, check your plans because there will be misunderstandings over whether I was supposed to come to your place or you were going to come to mine, get the MapQuest directions before setting out, and inquire about roadwork or street closings. Try not to drop the cell phone in the pool or barbecue pit, and always have a Plan B in case equipment fails. In other words, it’ll just be another normal day…
